UAE hosts Political Awareness Development Forum for students

His Highness Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of UAE University, today inaugurated the Political Awareness Development Forum, organized by the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, in the presence of high ranking officials and thinkers.

His Highness Sheikh Nahyan said that political awareness development for the UAE University students is important to strengthen stability, prosperity and sustainable growth, and urged the stronger participation of students in the comprehensive growth of the country.

“We organized the Forum to help students gain more insights on policy work and push them to work harder and exert more efforts to further position the UAE globally, taking pride in the country’s glorious past and looking forward for a better future,” he said
His Highness Sheikh Nahyan said the results of a survey, conducted by the National Authority for Scientific Research in cooperation with professors from Zayed University, highlighted that the Emirati youth is very proud of their leadership and democratic system, and the achievements of the country across various sectors.

The results also underlined that the UAE is one of the best countries, further adding that the youth is fully aware of the importance of the future, and optimistic of the successful and ambitious future in addition to being more trustful in the community’s support for them

He said the results showed the Emirati youth is keen to participate in the country’s comprehensive growth, and maintain the security, stability and economic growth, while supporting the work of UAE federal and local organizations. The survey also pointed out the youth supports the leadership role regionally and globally, and that they understand the effects of globalization, are keen to promote peace and respect human rights and dignity.

“The Political Awareness Development Forum is a path-breaking initiative that raises awareness of various societal segments on the importance of political development, the parliament experience and political participation,” said Tariq Lootah, Director General of the Ministry of State for FNC Affairs.

He added that strengthening political awareness is an educational necessity, and stressed the need to launch initiatives that contribute to fostering knowledge on national issues. He said that the speech of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, in 2005 established the fundamentals an pillars of the political participation programme that led to the establishment of Ministry of Federal National Affairs in 2006, the issuance of constitutional amendments related to the FNC in 2009 and conduct of the second election with expanded electoral members in 2009.

He indicated the UAE has become an exceptional example in all fields such as economy, human development and growth demonstrated by the high position in several global rankings.

The Forum included various working papers such as “Empowerment in the thought of Khalifa”, “Woman and political empowerment in the UAE society”, and the role of members of the Federal National Council in activating its role.

Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi; Dr. Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology; Dr.Saeed Mohammad Al Ghafli. Assistant, Undersecretary for FNC Affairs Ministry of State; H.E Sami Bin Adi, Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services Sector, a number of officials, deans and faculty members and students attended the ceremony.
