Ministry of State for FNC Affairs organizes second edition of “Political Awareness Development Forum for University Students”
• Tariq Hilal Lootah: Topics of Forum will focus on creating positive political awareness to support empowerment process in the UAE
The Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs will organize the second edition of “Political Awareness Development Forum for University Students” in collaboration with the UAE University on 26–27 November 2013, at headquarters of the University in Al Ain. This year’s event follows the success of the first edition of the Forum in contributing to the promotion of the culture of political participation among the student community in the country.
“The first edition of the Forum achieved considerable success in raising awareness on political participation and the FNC elections among university students. The focus was on the process adopted in creating political awareness among the youth, who form the most important segment of the society in the achievement of effective political participation,” said H.E. Tariq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs.
H.E. said in order to achieve the Forum’s objectives, the Ministry has chosen for this year’s event key topics such as political empowerment and the philosophy of political participation which will be addressed by HE Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs.
H.E. Lootah pointed out that the Forum will include sessions on the role of the media in promoting political participation, programme on empowering the Federal National Council and activating its role, and the importance of volunteer work in promoting the value of political participation in the society.
“The Forum comes within the Ministry’s initiatives and programmes in collaboration with relevant bodies in order to strengthen the political culture in the state. Through this Forum, the Ministry aims to promote political awareness among young people, and it is part of the initiatives which have been implemented within the programme of empowerment, said H.E. Lootah.
The Forum consists of five sessions: ‘Empowerment and Philosophy of Political Participation’, ‘Media’s Role in Supporting and Developing Political Participation’, ‘The Evolution of Political Empowerment and its Impact on the Performance of the National Council’, ‘Volunteer Work in the UAE Society’ and ‘Promoting the Values of Political Participation’. Besides it will also have the conclusion session, and two workshops on ‘Election Process’, and ‘Social Networks and Political Culture’.
