Under the patronage of Her Highness Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Higher Family Development Foundation and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, in collaboration with General Women’s Union, will organize a symposium under the title ‘Women’s Empowerment March’ in Abu Dhabi on 28th May 2014.

Announcing the symposium, His Excellency Tariq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, said: “The UAE’s wise leadership has always encouraged Emirati women to participate in the political process, thereby allowing them to perform their duties towards the homeland responsibly, and participate in the national development and decision-making process.”

H.E. Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, General Secretary of the General Women’s Union, said the Ministry of Federal National Council Affairs plays a key role in empowering women in the UAE through community initiatives. “The current partnership between the General Women’s Union and the ministry is the first step in this direction, which will be followed by other programmes and projects that will create tangible results on women’s participation in the political arena,” H.E. Noura said.

The Symposium will include four sessions highlighting a variety of topics such as the Empowerment March of Emirati women, Political Empowerment of Women, and Role of Media in Supporting Women’s Political Participation.
