His Excellency Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs, said the significant progress in the tasks undertaken by the Federal National Council highlights the success of the political empowerment programme launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and reflects the maturity of parliamentary experience in the state.
Speaking on the occasion of the concluding session of the FNC, H.E. Dr. Gargash said: “HE Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of the Federal National Council, played a key role in the management of the meetings of the Council, and enabled the members to receive satisfactory answers to their queries on the welfare of the UAE citizens.”
H.E. Gargash said the FNC second ordinary term sessions witnessed 100% attendance by the Ministers, who discussed with the members about 10 draft laws apart from seven topics of general interest. Besides, they also responded to 56 questions, of which 46 were answered orally while the rest were offered written answers.
H.E. Gargash pointed out that the FNC sessions witnessed the establishment of a standing committee on human rights to support the country’s efforts in the field of human rights protection, both locally as well as internationally.
The session was historic in view of the selection of Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi as the first Deputy Speaker of the Council. “Dr. Amal is capable of managing the sessions efficiently, and her selection as Deputy Speaker highlights the growing role of women in political participation,” H.E. Gargash added.
