Dubai, May 31, 2020 – The Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs (MFNCA) has launched a series of remote introductory and awareness lectures on political participation and parliamentary processes in the UAE.
The session are held through the Ministry’s social media platforms using videoconferencing technology. Their main objective is to enhance political awareness among all members of the community.
MFNCA Undersecretary His Excellency Tariq Hilal Lootah said: “Enhancing political awareness is a leading objective for us at the Ministry; it is a continuous and ongoing process. In an effort to reach all segments of the community, we have launched a series of lectures, optimised for social media platforms, that have generated tremendous interest among followers.”
“These direct and interactive lectures are a continuation of the Ministry’s efforts to introduce new and innovative means to communicate with members of the community, which, in turn, serves to achieve the MFNCA’s vision and strategic objectives,” H.E. Lootah added.
For his part, H.E. Dr Saeed Mohammed Alghufli, Assistant Undersecretary for Federal National Council (FNC) Affairs at the MFNCA, said: “These sessions help raise awareness about the Political Empowerment Programme launched by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2005. The discussions will cover a host of topics that introduce participants to the Federal National Council and its roles, all the while shedding light on the UAE’s trailblazing parliamentary experience and its track record of success in that regard.”
“The first session, entitled ‘The Empowerment Programme: Establishing a Culture of Political Participation’, witnessed significant turnout and participation from followers, which underlines the importance of optimising investment in advanced technologies and social media channels in order to strengthen communication with all members of the community,” H.E. Dr Alghufli continued. “This is especially important in light of current circumstances, which require everyone to remain at home, as per the preventative and precautionary procedures implemented to limit the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).”
Lectures can be live streamed through the Ministry’s official accounts on Instagram (mfnca) and Twitter (@mfnca), where the schedule and titles of sessions will be periodically announced.
The Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs is in charge of coordinating between the government and the FNC, and of directing parliamentary efforts to meet the needs of the UAE and its people. The Ministry outlines scenarios to strengthen relations between the government and the Council, and oversees the implementation of cabinet decisions that relate to recommendations made by the FNC.
The MFNCA also monitors draft laws that have been issued, and submits topics to the cabinet that the Federal National Council would like to discuss. It also handles all preparations for government representatives attending FNC sessions, and supports the Council and its committees in their efforts to obtain data and information from various government entities.
