Al Ain’s Majlis Al Yahar Hosts Lecture on Federal National Council Elections

Al Ain, August 25, 2019 – The Majalis Affairs Office at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court held an awareness lecture entitled ‘Federal National Council Elections 2019’ at the Majlis Al Muta’arrid Seif Al Afari in the Yahar region of Al Ain, in collaboration with the Ministry of State for FNC Affairs (MFNCA).

The session is part of the Ministry’s efforts to promote a culture of political participation and engage the community in the fourth FNC elections. Dr Mohammad Butti Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of Dubai Police Academy, led the discussion, speaking about the importance of the elections in reaffirming the concept of ‘Shura’, involving citizens in the decision-making process, driving comprehensive development, and establishing an exemplary parliament built on genuine and effective community engagement.

Dr Al Shamsi highlighted the Political Empowerment Programme, launched by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and its importance in promoting political participation among members of the community and engaging them in the decision-making process. This, in turn, enhances the FNC’s role in supporting the UAE Government to drive the country’s development, meet the aspirations of citizens, and place the UAE at the top of various indexes and sectors around the world.

“The Political Empowerment Programme offers a forward-thinking vision and a national plan of action to drive comprehensive and sustainable development – one that is tailored to meet UAE society’s values and customs,” Dr Mohammad Al Shamsi said. “The Programme reinforces the ‘Shura’ concept and the country’s inclusive values. The UAE is on the verge of its fourth election cycle; this national undertaking marks a shift in the country’s political development, most notably as the female quota for the FNC was expanded to half of the Council.”

Dr Al Shamsi applauded the Ministry of State for FNC Affairs for launching these innovative initiatives to promote a culture of political participation among members of the community, establishing direct communication with them to introduce them the latest parliamentary developments and accomplishments.

The lecture was marked by significant turnout from citizens, who interacted with lecturers and asked questions about H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s Political Empowerment Programme, as well as their role as citizens in supporting political development by taking part in the elections as candidates and voters.

This lecture is part of a series of activities organised by the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs to promote political awareness and enhance communication with all segments of society. It also serves to achieve the Ministry’s vision and strategic objectives to build long-term national partnerships.
