During the lecture, Dr. Badria Al Dhaheri, Goodwill Ambassador, presented a paper in which she discussed the participation of women in the UAE political system from all angles. Dr. Al Dhaheri explained that the UAE leadership laid the proper foundations, legal frameworks, and laws that protect women’s rights and enable them to play a part in society on an equal footing with men.
Al Dhaheri asserted that the participation of women in politics is a step in the right direction towards strengthening the role of women in the government and political decision-making. “The involvement of women in the Federal National Council will lead to their wider involvement in the formation of public legislation and solving community issues,” she said. “In addition to that, it will further empower them to address their issues and problems, review legislations that pertain to these issues, and play a part in creating solutions for them to ensure equal opportunity and justice for women and men, as well as to gradually change perceptions about women’s role at public life.”
The lecture is part of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs’ efforts to promote a culture of political sharing and political awareness among all segments of society.
